Lexington's own Zan Payne excited for next chapter at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Incoming Kentucky freshman Zan Payne is a Lexington kid playing for his hometown team.

Zan joins Kentucky as a walk-on after a stellar high school career at Lexington Catholic. He scored over 1,000 points for the Knights, but will redshirt his freshman season as he continues to heal from knee surgery.

"It will motivate me to work harder since I am hurt and I will rehab a lot and ice and it will motivate me a lot," said Payne.

Growing up in Kentucky as the son of UK assistant coach Kenny Payne, playing for the Cats has always been Zan's plan even though his father played on a national championship team at Louisville.

"Yeah he said he has the best jump shot and telling me how good he was and stuff like that."

His father was something special and when Zan's knee is back to full strength, he'll have the chance to make his own mark at Kentucky.
