Lincoln Co. cheerleaders win trip to Citrus Bowl

Orlando, Fla (WKYT) - Before the Kentucky Wildcats earned their trip to Orlando for the VRBO Citrus Bowl, a different Kentucky team had already earned their way to Florida.

The Lincoln County High School cheerleading squad won a competition last summer to cheer at the Citrus Bowl. At that time, no one knew Kentucky would be playing in the bowl game.

"As it got to each week, and they would win, and then the prediction would come up, and they're looking good for the Citrus Bowl, and we were all on pins and needles", said Coach Amy Bastin.

The team had to work to earn their way to Orlando. Coach Bastin says all the parents had to be in on the trip. They all worked together to raise money.

The team says they are thrilled to share the field with the national champion UK cheerleaders.

"Just knowing that we're going to be there with them is a great accomplishment for me and my team", said Lincoln Co. cheerleader Alex Jones.

In addition to cheering at Camping World Stadium, the Lincoln Co. cheerleaders will also being enjoying their time in Orlando at Disney's Magic Kingdom.
