Longtime EKU baseball coach Jim Ward dies

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Longtime EKU baseball coach Jim Ward has died. Ward was 82.

Ward led the Colonels for 22 years, winning 628 games. He finished with 939 career wins.

Under Ward, the Colonels won five OVC championships and four OVC Tournament titles. EKU made four NCAA Regional appearances under Ward. He was inducted into the EKU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

Ward was a five-time OVC Coach of the Year and coached five OVC Players of the Year. 29 of his players signed pro contracts.

The Cincinnati native will buried at Madison Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 21, from 3-6 p.m. at the Black Box Theater at the EKU Center for the Arts. Services will be held Monday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home in Richmond.
