RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) -- The EKU football team will open the 2019 football season at home against Valparaiso on August 29 before visiting Louisville on September 7.
The non-conference portion of the schedule concludes with road games at Indiana State on September 14 and at Presbyterian College on September 21.
Eastern Kentucky ended the 2018 season with four straight wins and were in the conversation for a playoff spot. The Colonels were 7-4 overall and finished third in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 5-2 mark. Eastern will begin the 2019 season having won 10 of its last 16 games.
The Colonels and Valparaiso have met four times with EKU holding a 3-1 edge in the series. The first meeting was in 1945. The most recent match-up came in 2015 when Eastern Kentucky beat the Crusaders 52-10 in the 2015 season opener. Senior to be defensive end Aaron Patrick had two tackles and a sack in that game.
Eastern and Louisville will be meeting for the 28th time. The Cardinals hold an 18-8-1 edge in the all-time series. The two teams last hooked up on Sept. 7, 2013 in Louisville. The Colonels last beat UofL, 45-21, on Nov. 23, 1985.
Indiana State and EKU will face each other for just the eighth time, and the first time since ISU overcame a 16-7 halftime deficit to beat the Colonels 36-16 in the 2014 FCS Playoffs in Richmond. EKU is 5-2 against the Sycamores.
Eastern Kentucky and Presbyterian will be meeting for the first time on the gridiron.
EKU announced its 2019 conference schedule in December. The Colonels will play four games at home against Tennessee State, Tennessee-Martin, Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech. EKU will face conference foes Murray State, Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Jacksonville State on the road.
