LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky women’s basketball coach Matthew Mitchell has signed a new deal with the school.
Mitchell’s new contract adds three years to his previous deal – Mitchell will coach the Wildcats until 2022.
The new contract pays Mitchell a base salary of $825,000. For this season, Mitchell will receive an additional $217,500 for broadcast and endorsement deals.
Next year, Mitchell will receive $498,000 for broadcast and endorsement deals. In the final season of his contract, Mitchell will be paid $706,538.
Other incentives include $250,000 for making the Elite Eight and $400,000 if the Wildcats make the Final Four. Mitchell would pick up $500,000 if the Cats win the national championship.
If UK earns a .985 or higher on its academic progress report, Mitchell would earn a $25,000 bonus.
“I’ve always loved performance incentives,” Mitchell said on Thursday. “I think what they’re paying me, we need to be really good, year in and year out in the NCAA tournament ,and competing for a conference championship in those kind of things.”
