Sam Dick's Citrus Bowl Diary | Day 2: Arriving in Orlando tonight!

By  |

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - I am in Macon on the way to Orlando. I made it here for sleep in record time -- six and half hours from Lexington with one quick stop for gas. I know. That’s really driving fast. Traffic was busy through Tennessee and north Georgia/Atlanta with some rain mixed in last night, but no accidents or slowdowns so we flew down the interstate.

I should be in Orlando early this afternoon just in time to pick up my press credentials at the media hotel. So far I am really impressed with the Citrus Bowl organization. At the media hotel, they are serving us dinner each night and will have snacks and drinks throughout the day plus a work area.
Each day they send an update on the day’s agenda, and they have an app which is loaded with information including times and locations of team practices.

For my interviews from the Citrus Bowl organization by Skype that you will see in tonight’s stories at 6 p.m. on the CW and the late news on WKYT you will see and hear from Sam Gardner. He is one of the media contacts and is a wealth of information. You will notice something behind him during the interview that you will like. I will leave it at that for you to spot. Anyway, tonight at 6 p.m. he talks about the stadium where the Cats will play on Tuesday. In our story, you will actually see part of the stadium blown up when they did a massive rebuild years ago. They demolished the entire lower section of Camping World Stadium and rebuilt it.

Then for the late local news, I go through the many fan events coming up tomorrow and New Year’s Day. Even if you can’t be with us in Orlando, it will give you a taste of the fun down here for fans. With the temps in the 80s, it should be a wonderful few days in Florida. Now we just need UK to play a great game against the legendary Penn State. I don’t want the same outcome from 1999 when I covered the Outback Bowl in Tampa.

Monday is full of things to show you from Orlando including the pep rally and a fun story with some UK grads who have opened up a special business in Orlando. More details to come.

Time to get in the car and head to sunny Florida.

Go CATS!

Sam
