SEC coaches vote Stoops Coach of Year, Allen Defensive POY

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WKYT) - Mark Stoops has been voted the SEC Coach of the Year by his peers, the league announced on Wednesday.

In the same coaches’ poll, linebacker Josh Allen picks up the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Stoops led the Wildcats to a 9-3 record in the regular season and a berth in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day. UK was 5-3 in league play, which is the best for the Cats since 1977. UK has never played in the Citrus Bowl.

Allen won the Bronco Nagurski Award given to the nation’s best defensive player. Allen set the UK career sack record (28.5). He has a school-record 14 sacks this season. He’s the SEC leader in sacks, tackles for loss (18.5) and forced fumbles (5).
