The ballpark will be named Kentucky Proud Park after the UK Board of Trustees approved the name Friday. The university says the name is a tribute to farmers and businesses in Kentucky.
“Farmers and their families are deeply woven into the culture and heritage of our state,” Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart said. “As the Commonwealth’s flagship university, we are thrilled to honor that through the name of our new baseball stadium and pleased to have a partner in Kentucky Farm Bureau that feels the same way. We look forward to many, many wins in Kentucky Proud Park.”
The $49 million baseball stadium is located off Alumni Drive.
The Kentucky Farm Bureau decided to name the stadium for Kentucky Proud after securing stadium naming rights, and no taxpayer dollars were used in the agreement. The program is funded using funds from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund.
The stadium hosted a September exhibition between Kentucky and Xavier. It has seating for 2,500 as well as terraces, grass berms and a concourse to make the capacity reach approximately 5,000.
