Video Vault: Andrews' halfcourt heave lifts Laurel Co. to '82 title

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The championship game of the 1982 Boys’ Sweet 16 featured two of the Kentucky’s best high school teams and arguably the most iconic shot in state tournament history.

Laurel Co. and North Hardin had battled to a 51-51 tie, and with :03 remaining, Paul Andrews intercepted an inbounds pass in the backcourt. His halfcourt heave at the buzzer was good and the Cardinals had captured the school’s first state title, 53-51.

High school fans today still talk about “The Shot.”
