LOS ANGELES (AP) - The newspaper drama "Spotlight" won best picture at 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
Tom McCarthy's film about the Boston Globe's investigative reporting on sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests won over the favored frontier epic "The Revenant."
But "Revenant" star Leonard DiCaprio did win best actor.
Brie Larson won best actress for her portrayal of a mother struggling to raise her son in captivity in "Room."
"Mad Max" picked up six awards, while "Spotlight" took Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. "The Revenant" also did well, winning three awards, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Cinematography.
