Lexington Police allowing some crimes to be reported online

Reporting some crimes to police just became a little easier.

The Lexington Police Department has launched the Citizen Online Police Reporting System.

It's designed to save victims of certain petty crimes time, by allowing them to submit a police report online, instead of waiting for an officer.

The online system can be used for reports of harassing communications, lost property, criminal mischief, credit card fraud, theft by unlawful taking, and larceny from auto less than $500, as long as there are no known suspects.

"We think this will give us another mechanism to interact with the community, and citizens of our community, in a positive way," Lexington Police Commander Alan Martin said. "And we're looking forward to getting the word out."
