Cyclist killed in Scott County crash

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A cyclist has been killed after investigators say a truck hit her near Sadieville Friday afternoon.

The crash happened on U.S. 25, near Pokeberry Road, around 3:30 p.m.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says a truck crashed into a group of cyclists, who had pulled onto the side of the road to do some maintenance on their bikes.

"At this point we know at least some of them were off the side of the road, as to where the two that were struck were, in comparison to the roadway itself at the time of the collision is what we're still trying to determine," said Captain Jearl Porter with the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

The Scott County coroner says one of the cyclists, 24-year-old Jamie Roberts of Baltimore, died at the scene. Another cyclist suffered minor injuries.

Deputies say the driver of the truck stayed at the scene, and is cooperating with the investigation.

The cyclists were part of a group of college students traveling across the country to raise money for cancer research. The website for 4K For Cancer has a profile for Jamie Roberts.

U.S. 25 reopened just before 7 p.m.
