CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WKYT) Residents in Cynthiana were asked to shelter in place on Thursday evening after a chlorine leak was detected at a water treatment plant on Waterworks Road.
According to police a 'Code Red' was put out around 7:30pm asking residents to stay indoors with their windows closed while crews worked to assess the situation and finish cleaning up after the leak.
The source of the leak was found and capped according to police, but they believe Chlorine did make it about half a mile down the river.
Police say the Wal-mart was evacuated as a precaution but no other business in the area were affected.
Police say Hazmat has been called in for clean-up and the Code Red was lifted around 10:30pm.
So far no illnesses have been reported.
