FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT)- The committee working on redrawing school lines in Fayette County has posted drafts for where the new elementary and middle school lines may fall.
Several meetings have been held over the past couple of months as the committee continues their planning. The work began in April of 2014 and since then a school board-approved panel has been hosting meetings open to the public for feedback and planning. Community input is also welcome online.
The Fayette County Board of Education is working to redraw school boundaries in anticipation of the construction of a new high school and two new elementary schools in Lexington.
District leaders plan to open one elementary school east of I-75 off Polo Club Boulevard and another one off Georgetown Road in 2016. In 2017, they plan to open a sixth high school on Winchester Road.
A school board decision on the new school attendance zones is expected sometime this spring.
You can follow each step of the process online at the Fayette County Public School's website.
