One killed, two sent to hospital after fiery Laurel crash

Fire crews had to battle a forest fire, in addition to dealing with a deadly crash, on Highway 80 in Laurel County.

One person involved in the three vehicle crash died.

Two others were taken to the hospital; one flown to UK and the other taken to St. Joseph London.

A coal truck, a dump truck and a cargo van were involved in the crash.

Police describe the accident as an "opposite direction side-swipe." They say the cargo van and tamden dump truck side swiped..then the van collided head on with the coal truck, which caused the coal truck to catch fire..and run down an enbankment.

The coal truck was the vehicle that caught fire.

The person killed the driver of the van. He's been identified as Donald Perry.

The dump truck driver, David Adkins, was taken to the local hospital while the coal truck driver, Buck Massey III, had to be flown out.

Highway 80 west of London was predicted to be shut down for several hours.

The name of the person that was killed has not been released, pending family notification.

Traffic is being rerouted along Kentucky 1956.
