INDIANAPOLIS, In. (WKYT) - The atmosphere in Indianapolis is being described as electric. One of college basketball's biggest rivalries will come to a head on Friday night at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Kentucky Wildcats will take on the Louisville Cardinals. Louisville is a four and a half point favorite.
Lucas Oil Stadium was built to host Super Bowls, Final Fours, and other major sporting events. It seats upwards of 70,000 people. More than 42,000 tickets sold for this game. Stadium Director Mike Fox says he and his staff saw almost immediately the impact of UK fans, once the team made the Sweet 16.
"Last Friday we had about 22,000 tickets sold. On Tuesday we had 42,000 sold. Pretty much all you need to say," said Stadium Director Mike Fox
Officials at the stadium say 60% of ticket request came from UK fans.
While waiting for the game, fans spent time enjoying what the Circle City had to offer. Some fans, though, came without a ticket and are hoping to get one.
The ticket office at Lucas Oil will open immediately following the game to begin selling tickets for the Elite 8.
It's a late tip. You can catch the game here on WKYT at 9:45 p.m. We'll also have extended post-game coverage on WKYT's late news, expected to start around midnight.
