LA Fitness to close downtown Lexington location

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The doors will close for good Friday at the LA Fitness location perched atop a parking garage in the middle of downtown Lexington.

Workers at the health club at 230 West Street told WKYT the location would end operations at 2 p.m. Friday. The downtown location was one of three LA Fitness facilities in Lexington.

In 2012, LA Fitness acquired the locations when it bought Lexington-based fitness chain Urban Active.

Its founder Royce Pulliam started Urban Active in 2007 when he switched his former Gold’s Gym locations in Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio to Urban Active.

Various concept drawings and sketches for the long-delayed CentrePointe project in downtown showed the former Urban Active and then LA Fitness as part of the project. Plans submitted to the Courthouse Area Design Review Board in 2012 showed a two-level Urban Active health club that was approximately 30,000 square feet.
