LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The inbound and outbound left lanes of Versailles Road are closed at New Circle Road. This is part of the ongoing widening and reconstruction project at the Versailles Road and New Circle Road interchange.
The lanes closed on Monday morning and will remain closed until six Tuesday evening in order for road crews to work on a new ramp configuration.
Officials are encouraging motorists to use a different route. If you must travel through the area, the state transportation department is asking drivers to use extreme caution.
A reduced speed limit of 45 miles per hour will be in effect.
Also, from 7:00 p.m. Monday until 7:00 a.m. Tuesday the right/slow lane of the inner loop will be closed on the Versailles Road outbound ramp. Drivers will still be able to get onto the ramp. The lane closure is necessary for guardrail installation on New Circle Road.
Drivers also need to be aware that the ramp from the inner loop of New Circle Road to inbound Versailles Road will be closed from 10:00 p.m. Monday until 5:00 a.m. Tuesday. Road crews will be removing guardrails to make way for a temporary barrier wall.
The Department of Highways wants to thank the public for their patience during this time.
"We know this project has caused some delays and inconveniences and we do apologize for that," says Public Information Officer, Natasha Lacy. "We know once the project is finished the general public will be very happy with the access they'll be having with the new lanes."
The anticipated date of completion for the entire project is September 30th.
