LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)-Police say three people they are questioning could be responsible for thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise. Officer say they stole packages from the front porches of homes in Hartland; Andover; Idle Hour and Fairway. Investigators say it didn''t matter what was inside the boxes; Allen Thomas Whitaker and two others turned it into cold hard cash.

"According to Postal Inspectors, They have several reports of people saying their mail never came they believe it was stolen," Lexington Police Spokesperson Sherelle Roberts explained.

Officers Caught up with Whitaker at the Brandywine Apartments off Man O War this afternoon, after investigating leads on these theft cases for weeks.
Police say more than a dozen thefts were reported through the post office and seven more reported to their detectives. Now, they say there could be many more.

Roberts said "There could be some situations where you were expecting a package and it never came. If you suspect it was stolen, give us a call on our non-emergency number at 258-3600."

Roberts also says you may want to make special delivery instructions for any packages you may be getting.

"Maybe leave it at a neighbor's house or make a note to have it left on the back porch."

Police say the three could face federal charges.
