LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have arrested a man suspected of robbing more than a dozen Lexington businesses in the last month.

Darnell Thomas Jr., 34, was charged Tuesday with 14 counts of first-degree robbery. Police say they obtained an arrest warrant for Thomas on Feb. 28.

The arrest comes days after investigators released more than a dozen surveillance photos of robberies that took place between January 23 and February 26. Investigators are still looking for Thomas' accomplice, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

Thomas' arrest cleared the majority of cases that police had been investigating, however, there were two robberies that were unsolved Tuesday. Roberts said those robbery investigations -- one on 2301 Paris Pike and the other at 3470 Richmond Road -- are still open.

At the time, police said they were releasing photos of the robberies because of the volume of robberies and some striking similarities in the way the intruders enter the businesses.

The most recent robbery police connected to Thomas was a Feb. 27 robbery at the Tobacco Zone on North Broadway.

During that robbery, Zara Adil, a Tobacco Zone clerk, fought off the robber, now identified as Thomas, using the assailant's gun. Aldi told WKYT that she believed he was the same man behind more than a dozen other Lexington robberies. Aldi shot the assailant in the shoulder.

On Tuesday, Roberts said, Thomas was taken to the hospital so he could get treatment for his shoulder. She said he never got treatment for the injury.
