Morehead mother reunites with daughter

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - For the past couple of years, the people at Judah Christian Fellowship in Morehead have been praying for Noelle Hunter.

"The overriding emotion was love and support and tenacity," Hunter said.

They've also been praying for the safe return of her daughter, Muna.

"In December of 2011, on Christmas Day, without my knowledge or my consent, her dad and she flew to Mali, which is in West Africa," Hunter said.

For two years, Hunter has worked to bring her daughter back to Kentucky.

"Lots of tears, lots of prayers, lots of footwork, lots of lobbying," she said.

This week, it all paid off. Hunter flew to Mali Wednesday and with help from the government, collected 5-year-old Muna.

"As we walked through the airport, we just knew we were home and that's a feeling that we're still honestly adjusting to," she said.

This morning Muna and her family spent the morning catching up with those who hadn't seen her in a long time. It's been a trying couple of years for Hunter, but with the help of her supporters, she's awakened from the nightmare.

"When the plane took off, we just looked at each other and we just knew it was done," Hunter said.

Hunter said Senator Mitch McConnell's office was heavily-involved in bringing Muna home. He met her at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Saturday night.
