LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is in the hospital after a car crashed, leaving part of the vehicle in a creek.

Police got the call to come to Wilson Downing Drive a few minutes before 4:30 a.m. on Friday. A car ran off the road near Ridgepoint Run. That car flipped upside down and ended up wedged between the bank of a creek and a concrete culvert.

Part of the vehicle ended up in the water. Police say, however, the creek in that area is shallow.

The driver ended up stuck inside the car.

The fire department came to help police free the man. They were able to get him out after about 30 minutes. The man was alert when he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

A tow company is on the scene trying to remove the car.

Wilson Downing Road is shut down between Camelot Drive and Ridgepoint Run. Police hope to reopen the road once the car is removed.
