Read On: Lexington tied for nation's 27th most literate city

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington and New Orleans have more in common than just a love for Bourbon. They’re tied for the 27th most literate cities in the country.

“America’s Most Literate Cities” rankings come from Dr. Jack Miller who is president of Central Connecticut State University. To come up with his 2015 rankings, Miller looked the number of local bookstores in the nation’s 77 largest cities, how many people have college degrees, internet access, the number of libraries, and many people subscribe to newspapers.

Minneapolis scored the top spot followed by Washington, .D.C; Seattle; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Atlanta.

Compared to other cities in the region, Lexington fell behind 12th-ranked Cincinnati, 21st-ranked Columbus, and 26th-ranked Nashville. Lexington’s 27th ranking was better than Indianapolis which ranked 37th, Louisville which ranked 46th and Memphis which ranked 64th.
