MONROE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police continue to search for a 2-year-old Monroe County girl who has been missing for over a week. They also want to find her mother's boyfriend.
State Police say troopers have been searching wooded areas including Temple Hill near the Barren County line. They say the child, who has been identified by her first name of Laynee, is believed to be with Anthony Dale Barbour, 25, of Summer Shade.
Police say on Tuesday, May 19, Barbour abandoned a red 2000 Pontiac Sunfire in a field near where he livest. Through an investigation they tracked him into an abandoned house in the Temple Hill area. Police waited outside for a while before deciding it was safe to go into the house.
"We thought the subject may be in there so a careful search of the building was done and we were not able to locate him. He wasn't in there," said Kentucky State Police Trooper B.J. Eaton.
Laynee's family said there was no incident or argument between her mom and Anthony Barbour. They said Laynee was at a friend's on Saturday, and Anthony told Laynee's mother he was going to pick up the girl on Sunday.
Deborah Warren works at Paul's Market near where Barbour lives and said she's seen him regularly. "He comes in here and I never would've thought anything like that," said Warren. "Once it happens it's really scary to think about somebody could be out with a gun, kidnapping a little kid. The longer she's gone, you know, it just makes me want to cry. I just worry about the little girl."
Barbour's family said he's not a violent person but they're worried that he could hurt himself and believe he may be suicidal. Barbour has warrants out for missing child support payments and a gun from his house is missing. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
"Every minute that has gone by and we haven't located her, it makes it tough. We want to be able to do everything we can," said Eaton.
Barbour is described as 5'11", 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He may also have some facial hair.
Laynee two years old, 24" tall, weighs 25 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.
