Student arrested after pouring gasoline on roommate's belongings

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - University of Kentucky police believe that alcohol may have played a role in an incident involving a student pouring gasoline on his roommate's things.

Police arrested 20-year-old David Lawrence late Thursday night, inside the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house off of Huguelett Drive on the University of Kentucky campus . He's charged with 1st degree Wanton Endangerment.

According to the arrest citation Lawrence, who is a BCTC student, poured gasoline on his roommate's clothes, bed, couch and other property inside their dorm room.

Police say the incident occurred after they had already separated the two roommates after they had a verbal and physical altercation.

"Turned into a physical altercation that was broken up by different members of the fraternity house. It escalated after it was broken up to where Mr. Lawrence poured gasoline on his roommates clothing as well as some of the furniture in the room," said UK Police Chief Joe Monroe.

Lawrence told police when he was arrested that he had been drinking.

Monroe said the university fire marshal is investigating if the gas can was stored inside the fraternity house. If it was, that's considered a violation.
