Career paths include specialized units such as K9, Collision Reconstruction, Criminal Investigations, Emergency Response Team, Patrol, Bureau of Investigation, Forensic Services, Traffic Enforcement, and more.
The Lexington Police Academy is a non-residential police academy, where recruit officers are successfully prepared for unexpected situations through creative and innovative training methods, ensure that they are familiar with state, local, and federal laws, and are prepared to enforce the laws properly while reducing civil liability.
A recruit officer’s starting salary is $47,000 during their first year of hire. Upon graduation from the academy, officers receive a $4,000 per year training bonus, increasing their annual salary to $51,000. Retirement, healthcare, and pension benefits all begin on the date of hire. The department often has overtime opportunities for those wishing to sharpen their public service skills or earn extra income for themselves or their families.
