Good Question: What are the electronic bracelets UK Baseball pitchers and catchers are using?
(WKYT)—Today’s Good Question is: What are the electronic bracelets UK Baseball pitchers and catchers are using?
Those are one-way communication devices that coaches can use to send signals to players. Previously, teams would use hand signals to relay that information. Now, they get it on a digital display on their wrist.
The company behind the technology says these devices have a few advantages.
The first is speeding up gameplay. If you shave a few seconds off of every pitch, that can add up over the course of a game. Second, your signals can’t be stolen by the other team.
That information is encrypted so only one team can view the information.
Some teams have the pitcher and catcher wear them, others have all nine defensive players wear them so they’ll know what kind of pitch is coming.
Similar technology is now being used in Major League Baseball, where the catcher can use a device on his wrist to signal the pitcher.
