Former UK swimmer, controversial advocate speaking at alma-mater

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Former University of Kentucky swimmer and current right-wing political advocate Riley Gaines is set to speak at her alma mater on Monday.
Gaines will speak at an event dubbed “The Fight is Far From Over” organized by Turning Point USA, a right-wing political group seeking to “restore traditional American values like patriotism, respect for life, liberty, family and fiscal responsibility,” per its website.

In it, she is set to discuss several hot-button issues including the role of transgender women in sports, a topic that her advocacy has gained international attention for.
According to The Lantern, the student newspaper at Ohio State University, Gaines previously spoke at Ohio State earlier in the month. That event drew roughly 100 attendees and a counter-protest of roughly 35 students.
The event will be held in the Gatton Student Center Ballroom at 6:30 p.m.
