LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said the city would not grant public incentives to a data center developer that recently bought property on New Circle Road.

DartPoints Operating Company bought Lexmark’s former land for $29 million. The company operates dozens of data centers across the country.

Gorton said her office was unaware of the project until after the sale was complete, and that while the project is in accordance with the current zoning in the area, her office would take a close look at regulations regarding such developments.

The mayor said “we need to think very carefully about data centers,” and that she supports “very tight controls.”

“They do not produce many jobs, and have the potential to increase utility costs on local residents,” Gorton said.
