FCC Chairman Ajit Pai to visit Kentucky Tuesday

Federal Communications Chairman Ajit Pai is traveling to Kentucky Tuesday to promote high-speed broadband.
Pai will visit Corning's manufacturing facility in Harrodsburg, an AM radio station in Danville and a school telehealth program in Scottsville. Pai is also planning to visit Tennessee and Arkansas during his tour.
Pai will be promoting efforts to improve broadband access throughout the country and decreasing the "digital divide," which is the divide between those with and without internet access.
The FCC head, a Republican, says these initiatives can help promote job growth in the United States.
Pai, who has had a record of being friendly with telecommunications companies, helped to successfully eliminate net-neutrality rules which prevented broadband providers from interfering with Internet traffic. The reaction led to a strong backlash from net-neutrality proponents.
He has also voiced opposition to a government-built 5G mobile network, saying the market should handle innovation and investment into these infrastructure improvements.
