Garrard County authorities arrest two after dead, malnourished dogs discovered
Garrard County authorities say two are facing charges after they discovered one dead and two emaciated dogs at a home.
Police say the county animal control director was called to a report on Dora Drive after receiving a report of a deceased dog tied to a tree. She found two "severely emaciated" dogs when she arrived at the scene and called police.
"It's been one of the worst ones I've seen," Brittany Fain said. "There was a puppy chained up out front was the first thing we seen."
Investigators say the two emaciated dogs were still tied to a porch while the deceased dog was tied to a tree.
Police determined the dogs were owned by Johnny Denny and Maria Denny who were arrested and charged with animal cruelty and torture.
"I never understand why they just don't bring their pets to the shelter and surrender them. We don't charge. If you can't afford to feed them bring them here or call and ask for food. If we have extra we don't care to help."
Investigators say they will look for someone to adopt the dogs after a conviction.
"We don't look for them to go back where they come from," Fain said.
