Lexington’s Sam Holbrook will be the umpire behind the plate in Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday. For Holbrook, a veteran major league umpire of 20 years, this marks his second World Series (2010, 2016).

“You've been through all that stuff before and you realize that's not the worst thing that's going to happen to me in my life,” Holbrook said last week, while playing in a local golf tournament in Lexington.

Holbrook started this year’s World Series in the replay booth. He was on the field for Game 6 between the Cubs and the Indians, umpiring at first base.

He’s also umpired an All-Star game(2004), four Division Series games and four League Championship Series games.

“This is just a job, but still, to have that experience and to be able to draw from those things, all the playoffs and even the regular season, it's good to be able to draw from that stuff and count on your experiences.”
