September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and Bluegrass Libraries are inviting communities across Central Kentucky to “Create Your Playlist” and discover everything their local public libraries have to offer.

Just like a favorite playlist brings together something for every mood and moment, a library card connects you to a personalized collection of possibilities. Whether your playlist includes attending concerts, performances, bestselling books, audiobooks for the road, movies for family night, creative programs, technology, or activities for children and teens, your local public library has something for you.

And today’s public libraries offer much more than books. Depending on your local library, your card may allow you to borrow musical instruments, board games, Experience Kits, and Experience Passes that provide admission to local museums and attractions. You can also discover eBooks, digital audiobooks, streaming resources, online learning tools, public computers and Wi-Fi, makerspaces, educational programs, meeting spaces, and many other free services and resources.

Looking to connect with other readers? Many public libraries offer book clubs covering a variety of genres and interests, giving readers an opportunity to discover new titles and share their love of books with others. Libraries also host special events featuring authors, book discussions, presentations, and book signings, creating opportunities to meet writers and learn more about the stories behind their work.

Public libraries have continued to evolve with changing times and the needs of their communities. Many libraries have also moved to a fine-free model, eliminating overdue fines and making it easier for everyone to use and enjoy library resources without worrying about accumulating late fees. Policies may vary by library, so check with your local library for details.

Today’s public library is a place to read, learn, create, explore, connect, and experience something new. From traditional library services to new technology and unique items you may never have thought you could borrow, your library card can open the door to more than you might imagine.

During Library Card Sign-Up Month, Bluegrass Libraries encourages everyone to take another look at their local library. If you don’t have a library card, September is the perfect time to sign up. If you already have one, explore something new; you may be surprised by everything your card can unlock.

There’s something for every age, interest, and stage of life at your public library. Create your playlist, discover new possibilities, and see where your library card can take you.

Visit your local Bluegrass Libraries this September to learn more about getting a library card and the many free services available in your community.
