From rodeo thrills to live music under the stars, Boyd County is lining up late-summer and early-fall events that make it easy to plan a day trip or weekend getaway in Eastern Kentucky.
This August, the Boyd County Fair takes center stage with new dates that no longer overlap the Kentucky State Fair, making it easier for families to come out and enjoy the fun. The fair is known for its classic, family-friendly atmosphere and variety of attractions. Visitors can expect a full carnival experience, plus plenty of uniquely local entertainment.
One of the biggest draws each year is the King Brothers Rodeo, which reliably brings in a big crowd. Motocross events rev up the energy, and the demolition derby remains a fan favorite.
“You’re still in Eastern Kentucky, so you never know what’s going to come out of the woodwork,” said Andrew Steel with Boyd County Tourism. The mix of events keeps things lively and memorable for all ages.
Beyond the fair, Boyd County offers plenty to fill out a visit. Camp Landing Entertainment District is home to Malibu Jack’s and other attractions that make it easy to spend a full day playing, dining and exploring. The Highlands Discovery Center adds an educational stop with its museum and hands-on exhibits, ideal for curious kids and adults alike.
Arts lovers will find a steady lineup of shows at the historic Paramount Arts Center. Steele suggests pairing an evening performance with an earlier activity: catch the rodeo or fair in the afternoon, then head to downtown Ashland for a show that you, your significant other or the whole family might enjoy.
With accessible day-trip options, fall activities and a growing calendar of September events, Boyd County is inviting residents and visitors to discover what’s happening just up the road. Event details, dates and ticket information are available at VisitBoydCounty.com .
