Downtown Nicholasville will turn into one big, walkable festival September 11, 12 and 13, 2026, as Downtown Days takes over Main Street and the surrounding downtown area. For three days, visitors are invited to eat, explore, listen, shop, play and spend some time enjoying everything happening in the heart of Nicholasville.
Live music will be at the center of the weekend, with a full lineup of bands and performers taking the Main Stage throughout all three days. Visitors can grab something from local food vendors, shop their way through Vendor Row, visit the Beer and Wine Garden or make their way to BBQ Competition Row, where pitmasters will compete throughout the weekend while serving barbecue to festivalgoers.
Another unique addition to this year’s festival is Squonk’s JOY MACHINE, an outdoor theatrical spectacle combining live music, machinery and larger-than-life performance. The nationally touring group will perform multiple free shows throughout the weekend, giving families several chances to catch something you probably don’t expect to find sitting in the middle of downtown Nicholasville.
Families will find plenty happening beyond the Main Stage, too. The Kids Zone will be filled with hands-on activities and play throughout the weekend, including Mini Nicholasville, where kids can explore a pint-sized version of their community. Chalk art, face painting and other interactive activities will give younger festivalgoers plenty to do. On Sunday, the Kids Business Fair turns the spotlight over to local young entrepreneurs ages 6–17. Friday evening will also include a free outdoor showing of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory at sunset.
Saturday brings even more reasons to spend the day downtown, including Classic Cars on Main, community line dancing and clogging, lawn games and activities happening throughout the festival footprint. Visitors can also take part in the Blue Ribbon Bake-Off and other community competitions that bring a little friendly rivalry into the weekend.
Downtown Days will also recognize the significance of opening day falling on September 11. JCS Show Choirs will perform the National Anthem Friday evening before the first Main Stage band, joining local first responders and community members in a moment of tribute and remembrance before the weekend’s music begins.
Friday night also offers a special ticketed experience featuring a Kentucky-inspired dinner followed by the KCAL Old Time Radio Hour, bringing the feel of an old-time radio broadcast to life. Throughout the weekend, local businesses, organizations and community partners will also be part of what makes downtown feel a little bigger, busier and more connected than usual.
Downtown Days is designed to be the kind of festival where you might come downtown for one thing and find yourself staying for five. Whether it’s a band you wanted to see, barbecue, shopping, family activities, Squonk, classic cars or simply spending the weekend with friends and neighbors, there will be plenty to discover in downtown Nicholasville September 11–13.
