STANFORD, Ky. (WKYT) - A southern Kentucky woman is keeping her positive attitude seven months into her recovery from a rare condition. An infection from a rare kidney stone in December 2023 caused Lucinda “Cindy” Mullins to lose parts of both her arms and legs. Now, she’s set to receive a blessing that can help her regain her independence.

“It was hard for me to even think that something like this could happen or why it was happening for me,” said Mullins.

The power of her positivity and her faith keeps her moving forward.

“I learned how to walk quite well with my legs,” Mullins said, noting she spent two weeks at Cardinal Hill with the sparkly pink prosthetics.

Love from family, friends, even complete strangers follow her every step of the way.

“God has put so many people in our lives that have helped us in the community,” said Mullins.

On Monday, it was a community of contractors who came together to discuss a plan that would help change her life again - a brand new, accessible home.

“When we hit Sunday, I pray that this house is standing here, lights on,” said developer Douglas Rose.

The developers are calling this plot the ‘Mullins Miracle.’ But Cindy points out she’s already had one of those.

“My miracle was waking up being alive,” Mullins said. “The peace that God laid on my heart to tell me it was going to be okay.”

Instead, this was a design which came from on high.

“This is a God thing, and this is God’s blessing.”

Workers gave their own blessing to the land - land which they’re going to work on quickly.

“It’s going to be built, in what they say is 10 days,” Mullins said.

Rose says they will lay the foundation in August, then plan to come back in September with all the materials on site and build the house up from a slab in just 10 days.

Once it’s done, Rose says it will be on a level slab with a heated driveway, allowing Cindy to have easy access getting in and out in all seasons.

They’re planning to install special cabinetry, so Cindy can work in the kitchen from her wheelchair, and are designing a bathroom to her needs as well.

“Now I just see a future for me and my family, and for me to be more independent and do some more things for myself,” said Mullins.

It’s one big blessing that brings so many of the little things back into her life.

“Putting something in the microwave, to be able to brush my teeth,” Mullins said. “Everything down to being able to put my own makeup on.”
