STANFORD, Ky. (WKYT) -Several hundred volunteers, six different contractors, and lots in donations are providing a brand new, “smart home” for a Lincoln County woman who lost part of both arms and legs to a rare infection.

Framing was done in a day, and piece by piece, a new home is going up in 10 days.

“Close to $300,000 in goods and services has been donated on this project,” said James Crocker, who helped organize what is being called the ‘Mullins Miracle’ project.

The home is for Cindy Mullins and her family, who suffered a rare kidney stone infection late last year.

She initially lost both legs, then her arms. “We have so many challenges in our life. Simple things like going down the hall in a wheelchair, and hitting the door casings, trying to get in the shower,” said DJ Mullins, Cindy’s husband.

Cindy Mullins is not watching the home build.

Crocker says she won’t see this until the big reveal next Wednesday, and the people behind this build say while Cindy does know the home is being built, they want to keep a lot of this a big surprise until next week. It was nothing but a concrete slab and chimney three days ago.

“So it is amazing what is possible when a bunch of people band together and commit to doing something,” said Crocker.

“The first thing is how do you thank everyone for what they are doing? Completely amazing for that talent of the guys, and the women, all the volunteers,” said Mullins.

People say what they have seen over the past few months is priceless.

“Someone said how much is it costing, the answer is an arm and a leg. No, it’s two arms and two legs. Cindy has a great sense of humor,” said Crocker.

The home will be revealed to the Mullins family and the community during a special ceremony on Wednesday, September 18th.
