Coroner identifies motorcyclist killed in Georgetown crash
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - The name of the motorcyclist killed in a deadly crash in Georgetown has been released.
The coroner says the victim has been identified as 30-year-old Joshua Shepherd of Georgetown.
Crews were called to Cherry Blossom Way at the overpass at Exit 129 just before 7 a.m. Friday after a motorcycle and a car collided.
“We have determined that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Cherry Blossom, crossing over the 129 overpass, and the SUV was making a left-hand turn onto Northbound I-75,” said Georgetown Police Assistant Chief Josh Nash.
They say Shepherd died from his injuries.
“Unfortunately, we do see quite a bit of fatalities when motorcycles are involved, and usually speed is a factor,” said Nash. “Now, I don’t know if speed was a factor here, but another thing was 6:50 in the morning. Visibility is low, so sometimes that causes an issue as well.”
This isn’t the only crash that area saw Friday morning.
Nash said there were two other crashes in the area, but those two were not fatal.
“There is a lot of traffic on this intersection with Toyota and the truck stops. I’m not sure what caused the three collisions to happen this morning all in the same area. Fortunately, there was one injury accident, the other one was a minor collision,” Nash said.
Nash said the traffic reconstruction team is working to determine exactly what caused the crash on Cherry Blossom Way.
