WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Wayne County man is behind bars and is accused of attempted murder after allegedly firing a gun with his family inside their home.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to a home on Ky. Highway 776 Wednesday night for an intoxicated male firing gunshots.

When they arrived, they say officers cleared the home and surrounded the house, ordering Garry W. Maziarz of Monticello to surrender to police outside of the home.

After several tries, the Wayne County Sheriff forced his way inside the home alongside deputies and found Maziarz in an upstairs bedroom “very intoxicated.”

Police say Maziarz resisted their commands and was eventually taken into custody after being tased. More bullet holes were also found in the house and near where a neighbor was standing.

“When that bullet hit that post, it really shook me up a lot,” said Douglas Rednour, who lives next door to Maziarz.

“When he started shooting at me I didn’t know what was going on. Scared me so bad. That glass flew all over me there,” said Rednour pointing to a shattered bird feeder on the porch of his home.

Rednour says he’s had an ongoing dispute with Mazriaz over a proposed property sale.

“I think if he gets out, that it’s going to happen to someone else. I don’t want to see that to happen.”

Maziarz is charged with one count of attempted murder and wanton endangerment. He is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

WKYT spoke to a captain at the Wayne County jail who initially told us that Mazriaz had agreed to a jailhouse interview, but later let us know that Mazriaz had changed his mind.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing, with more charges pending.
