LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Members of the Warehouse Block community, along with their families and friends, celebrated the neighborhood’s 40th anniversary Wednesday.

The event was held at Epping’s on Eastside.

Chad Walker said it all began in 1986, when his father bought his first building in what was then a dilapidated, mostly abandoned part of the city.

Since then, Walker said his family has transformed building after building, helping turn the area into the dining, shopping and entertainment destination it is today.

“It’s been awesome. When I was younger I thought nobody wanted to just stand in one spot and work in one area. I’m looking at it now — it is a privilege to have seen what it’s become and just sit on the corner and watch the metamorphosis of an entire neighborhood,” Walker said.

The event looked back at the block’s history, looked ahead to its future and included a special proclamation from Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton.
