The shooting occurred Friday, Aug. 21, on Tilden Road and resulted in the death of 19-year-old Jarell Rojas.

Lexington police were dispatched Friday for a shots fired report, where they found a victim with a gunshot wound. The victim drove his vehicle into a house, and police say they believe he was shot before driving.

The Fayette County Coroner identified Rojas as the victim.

During the course of the investigation, a criminal complaint says that a vehicle was identified shortly after the incident and three suspects were observed being involved directly with the homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, call detail records, surveillance footage and a GPS tracker on the vehicle suggested that Padgett was in the suspect vehicle before, during and after the homicide.

The suspect vehicle was also confirmed to belong to Padgett’s mother at the time of the incident, the complaint says.

A separate criminal complaint alleges that Padgett fled, driving through an active construction zone at over 70 miles per hour while changing lanes several times.

The vehicle was tracked to a Clark’s Pump-N-Shop using intersection and FLOCK cameras, the complaint says, where Padgett was reportedly positively identified after exiting the vehicle and entering the business.

Padgett later called police to report that he was robbed at gunpoint at Mary Todd Park of the vehicle, his phone and his handgun, according to the complaint.

The complaint says that call detail records suggest the phone was in the same area as Padgett while observed on surveillance video immediately after fleeing, but that the phone never returned to the area of Mary Todd Park before Padgett reported the phone being stolen.

Padgett is currently being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $1 million bond, and he is set to be arraigned Thursday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m.
