Carter’s campaign releases internal Lexington mayoral poll; Gorton disputes results
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The two candidates in the Lexington mayoral race have different perspectives on where the race stands.
Mayoral candidate Raquel Carter released the results of an internal poll that claims the race is in a statistical tie.
The poll, conducted by Lake Search Partners and paid for by Carter’s campaign, says that on first ask, voters chose Gorton 39% to Carter’s 34%, with a margin of error of ± 4.9%. 20% of those polled were undecided.
“I know Lexington is a great city, but most people we talk to out here say the city is not working for them,” Carter said, “it’s not working the best way it can, and that’s why I’m running for mayor.”
In a statement, Gorton said the poll was “the act of a desperate campaign grasping at straws, trying to pass off a horrible, factually incorrect push poll as a scientific poll.”
“Lexington knows better and sees through these desperate antics,” Gorton said.

“This is the act of a desperate campaign grasping at straws, trying to pass off a horrible, factually incorrect push poll as a scientific poll. I heard from many Lexingtonians recently after receiving this push poll from my opponent. It was an embarrassing way to campaign then and is even more insulting to the intelligence of the voters that she’s trying to tell you it’s a real poll. Lexington knows better and sees through these desperate antics.”
