MOREHEAD, Ky. (WKYT) - Morehead State University broke ground Friday on a third new residence hall, during the school’s homecoming weekend.

The new facility will be built on the site of the former Butler Hall.

The building will measure approximately 40,000 square feet and house more than 80 beds.

The project is part of what officials describe as the largest campus revitalization phase in the university’s history.

“We have to push forward. We have to build new residence halls, we have to meet the needs of what our student expectations are, what our parental and guardian expectations are for student housing and this brand new one, soon to start the spring of 2027 will continue to allow us to meet those expectations,” MSU President Jay Morgan.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027. The residence hall is expected to open during the 2028-29 academic year.
