Opal is still as sweet as always. But now the miniature Italian greyhound seems sad, a little nervous.

Who can blame her? Opal's owner is upset, too.

"If somebody was to throw a brick through my window, I'd get over it," said Jeannine Willis, who adopted Opal almost 12 years ago. "If somebody'd paint something, or you know, just do something stupid and mean, OK. But this? This is beyond mean."

Willis told WKYT's Garrett Wymer that a group of teenagers unhooked Opal from the front porch, then kicked her in the face.

Video of it was posted on social media. Willis said she found out when a friend saw it, came to check on Opal and sent Willis the video.

The video, which lasts four seconds, is hard to watch.

WKYT has decided not to show it.

Willis cannot get the images out of her mind.

"I just can't get over it. Why? Is it cool? Is that what kids do now? Are they that bored?" she said.

Willis said she cannot understand why someone would do that. She said she would not even know what to say to the person who did it.

"I don't know if I could even talk to them," Willis said. "I'm not going to take their answer why. What could I ask? 'Do you need to be in a mental institution?' That's the only question I've got."

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Franklin Co. Sheriff Pat Melton said he is "appalled" by what happened. Melton said deputies have interviewed the individuals believed to be involved in the case. He said they hope to wrap up the investigation by next week.
