KENTUCKY (WKYT) - A former Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts announced Wednesday that he has filed to run for secretary of state.

Republican Mike Harmon said in a news release that he is the only candidate with a conservative track record.

“I am the only candidate seeking the Republican nomination who has a proven conservative track record,” said Harmon. “You trusted me with protecting your taxpayer dollars; now I’m asking you to trust me again to protect the integrity of your vote. I look forward to earning your vote in May’s Republican primary.”

Harmon was elected state auditor in 2015 and served until 2023. Before that, he served in the Kentucky House for 13 years, representing the 54th District, which included Boyle, Casey and (formerly) Washington counties.

He recently served as state outreach director for the Commonwealth Policy Center.

Two other Republicans have filed to run: U.S. Army veteran and attorney Jack Whitfield and former Jefferson County Clerk Brad Holsclaw.

The May Primary Election is scheduled for May 18, 2027.
