Trial date set for man charged in 2021 Madison Co. double murder

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A judge has set a trial date for the man charged in a Madison County double murder.

During a status hearing on Wednesday, the court set 51-year-old Thomas Birl’s trial to begin on May 3, 2027.

Birl is accused of shooting Christopher and Gracie Hager outside of a rental property in August 2021.

The case was delayed over the past few years, and Birl was found competent to stand trial in July.
