155 children receive free dental care at Rupp Arena

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A total of 155 children received free dental care at Rupp Arena on Friday.

The event was put on by the nonprofit Team Smile. The organization teams up with professional and collegiate teams to create a tailgate-like experience while partnering with local dentists.

Dr. Zindell Richardson said he believes the event is a step in the right direction to promote good health.

“A lot of these children have never been to the dentist. To teach them at a young age how dental health affects their overall health. Not only that it affects their phonetics, it affects their eating so proper digestion... everything starts with the mouth, it begins with the mouth and affects the rest of their body,” Richardson said.

The event was the first put on by Team Smile in the commonwealth.
