KENTUCKY (WKYT) - Sisters of Notre Dame Eastern Kentucky Foundation is putting big money to work in Bath and Rowan counties.

In its first year of grant-making, the foundation has helped fund diabetic eye exams, glasses and emergency dental care for uninsured patients in Bath County, and also backed programs that keep seniors safe at home.

In Rowan County, the grants supported book vending machines in local elementary schools, faith-based programs for student athletes and a transitional home for survivors of domestic violence.

All in all, the foundation spent more than $1.2 million to help 41 nonprofits in eight eastern Kentucky counties.
