After three incidents involving guns found at Tates Creek High School in the past two weeks, community members hope involvement will help prevent trouble.

"It seems to be instilling fear, not just in the students, but even in parents," said Pastor Mario Radford. He leads the congregation at Growth Point Church, not far from the school.

Growth Point Church's members will meet on the school ground Saturday morning at 8:00 for a prayer service.

"We're praying for the principal. We're praying for the teachers. We're praying for the superintendent. We're praying for everybody that they'll make the right decisions and do what they need to do," Radford said. "Make sure that, not just the church, but the community, that your child is my child. Your brother is my brother. Your sister is my sister,"

Just off the campus of Tates Creek, several people help children with homework at Gainesway Community Center each day after school.

"We're helping with their math, english, stuff like that," Lawrence Bowie said.

Bowie hopes staying involved with the children in the neighborhood can keep them out of trouble in the future.

"We can't pry too much. We just hope for the best and see if they open up. Sometimes after three weeks there they change and open up and we find out more," he said.
