A former southern Kentucky hospital clinic assistant is in jail.

Police in Russell County say Lindsay Sloan used her position at a medical clinic to falsify prescriptions.

The investigation started a few months ago when Russell County Hospital officials started noticing some improprieties.

Sloan is accused of making false statements regarding 127 prescriptions for narcotics between April 23, 2014 and June of this year. She worked as a medical assistance at the Family Medical Practitioners which is owned by the Russell County Hospital.

When asked what Sloan is accused of doing, Teresa Spaw with Russell County Hospital said, "of using her status as an employee to call prescriptions into drug stores for narcotics."

Sloan is charged with knowingly obtaining and assisting others in obtaining controlled substances. Her arrest warrant states that Sloan procured prescriptions under various names that were not legally authorized.

Sloan is being held at the Russell County Jail. Police say the investigation is ongoing and there could be more charges and arrests.
